EXPERIENCE

Prior to working at Lassus Wherley, Laurie was a Federal Tax Manager for Hanson Industries, a large conglomerate, from 1990 to 1994.   There she managed tax planning and research related to mergers, acquisitions, stock and asset sales of subsidiaries and public offerings.  She supervised and reviewed  the preparation of the consolidated federal income tax return, encompassing over 200 active subsidiaries.  She was also responsible for the preparation of partnership returns and extensive research of partnership law.

From 1986 to 1990 Laurie worked for Arthur Andersen & Co. in Roseland, New Jersey.  She began work in the audit department in Stamford, Connecticut, were she got the audit experience necessary to become a Certified Public Accountant.  She audited and prepared financial statements for manufacturing companies, partnerships, hotels and other entities.

In 1987 she applied for and was offered a position as a tax accountant.  Along with preparing corporate and individual tax returns, she received extensive training in tax research.

After only one year as a staff tax accountant Laurie received a promotion to Senior Tax Accountant, becoming the only person to hold this position with just one year of experience.  In this position, Laurie supervised, reviewed and assisted staff personnel in the preparation of complex income tax returns for corporations, individuals, partnerships, estates and trusts.  One her most interesting projects was to coordinate the filing of 175 expatriate tax returns.  She came to specialize in the preparation of federal and state income tax returns for expatriates and the research of US tax treaties and income tax laws required by this type of work.
